You may have to tear down your conversion

South Kesteven District Council warn that a change in the building regulations could mean you have to tear down your loft conversion. Many builders and householders are unaware of new legislation. The building team at SKDC say that work completed by less scrupulous builders is atrocious and potentiallylife threatening.
Stuart Vickers, SKDC's development services manager, explains: "We've seen a conversion that was done for £2,00 by a building firm that operates across the East Midlands. It was awful. The builders didn't know anything about the new law, which is more onerous than before. The work could have put a family's life at risk."

You get what you pay for
Everyone has heard the saying that in life you get what you pay for. This is also true of loft conversions. We think the council are right to slam poor quality and potentially dangerous conversions. We believe that safety comes first, building regulations are there to ensure that any conversion work is safe and meets a set of minimum standads.
