With house prices now into double digit falls of 10.9% demand for loft conversions could be set to increase. With no end in sight to the current housing market troubles many people are finding themselves in a position where they need additional space but are unable to sell their home and buy a bigger house. While builders of new homes are having a tough time, builders specialising in extensions and conversions are finding there is a strong demand for their services.
Channel 4 have a nice guide to loft conversions that is well worth a read. There is some news on the FMB website about the changes to stamp duty which is also worth a look.

House Prices Continue to Fall in July

The latest report from the Nationwide reveals that house prices have had their biggest fall since they began keeping records back in 1991. The annual fall now stands at a shocking 8.1% after prices dropped a further 1.7% in July. The average home now costs £169,316 which is almost £15,000 less than this time last year. Read more »
Loft conversion for £2,000 atrocious council warns

South Kesteven District Council warn that a change in the building regulations could mean you have to tear down your loft conversion. Many builders and householders are unaware of new legislation. The building team at SKDC say that work completed by less scrupulous builders is atrocious and potentially life threatening. Read more »
